Manage the cash in my manual account

How Finary tracks the money available in your account, and what to enter to keep your performance accurate.

Written by Pierre-Luc Schaming

In a transaction-based manual investment account, Finary also tracks the money available in the account, based on what you enter.

Your cash

Your cash appears as a separate line in the Holdings tab, named after the account currency (for example Euro). The amount entered when the account was created (Cash balance) is recorded as a Deposit dated that day. After that, there is no balance to edit: your cash moves with your transactions.

What changes it

  • a Deposit increases it;

  • a Withdrawal or a Fee decreases it, and can't exceed the cash available;

  • a Distribution (dividend, interest) increases it.

⚠️ Good to know: your buys and sells don't update your cash yet. To keep your balance and your performance accurate, record a Withdrawal for the amount of each buy paid with your cash, and a Deposit for the amount received from each sell. If your cash doesn't cover a buy, record the matching deposit first.
