Understand the performance of my manual account

What the P&L and the Holdings tab show, and how they differ from your other accounts.

Written by Pierre-Luc Schaming

In a transaction-based manual investment account, Finary calculates your cost basis and your P&L from your buys and sells.

The Holdings tab

  • On the web: each line shows the Quantity, Unit cost, Cost basis, Current price, Value and P&L. For a euro fund or a crowdlending holding, tracked by amount, only the Cost basis, Value and P&L are shown.

  • On mobile: each holding shows its value and its P&L. Tap it to see the Current price, Unit cost, Quantity and Cost basis.

At the top of the account, the Overview tab shows the Total cost basis and the Total P&L. The Total P&L also counts your fully sold holdings and your distributions: on the web, it can therefore be higher than the total shown in the Holdings tab.

A P&L that includes your sales

The P&L adds up the unrealised gain on the securities you hold and the gains already realised through your sales. After a partial sale, it can therefore differ from the simple difference between the value and the cost basis.

What's different from your other accounts

Sold holdings

A fully sold holding moves to Past. On the web, you see its Invested amount, Proceeds and Real. P&L there. On mobile, each past holding shows the sale proceeds and the realised P&L: tap it to see the Invested amount.
