What is self-directed mode?

The self-directed mode (gestion libre) lets you choose your own investment funds for your Finary Life insurance contract. Unlike managed mode (gestion profilée), where your allocation is set based on your investor profile (Cautious, Bold or Adventurous), self-directed mode gives you full control over the composition of your portfolio.

With Finary Life self-directed, you get access to over 700 investment funds: funds, ETFs, stocks, private equity, euro funds — all with unit-linked (UC) management fees among the lowest on the market.

Is self-directed mode right for me?

Self-directed mode is designed for investors who want to:

  • Choose their own funds (ETFs, stocks, funds...)

  • Set their own allocation across each fund

  • Adapt their strategy based on their own convictions and analysis

Prefer to delegate? Managed mode is also available under the same conditions, with three profiles tailored to your risk tolerance. More details here.

How to subscribe in self-directed mode?

  • Go to the Invest tab in your Finary account.

  • Click on Open a Finary Life contract.

  • Complete the client knowledge questionnaire (situation, goals, experience).

  • At the management mode step, select the Self-directed tab.

  • Search and select your investment funds using the built-in search engine.

  • Set the allocation of your initial investment across your chosen funds.

  • Optionally, set up a recurring contribution and its allocation.

What funds are available in self-directed mode?

Finary Life self-directed gives you access to a wide range of funds:

  • Funds

  • ETFs (including iShares Portfolio ETFs in partnership with BlackRock)

  • Netissima euro fund (insured by Generali, boosted to 4.5%* in 2026-2027)

  • Private Equity

In total, over 700 funds are available. You can browse them directly from the selection interface during your subscription.

Stocks (individual equities) will be available exclusively via one-time contributions during the contract lifecycle (minimum €1,500 per stock).

What are the fees for Finary Life?

  • 0.50% per year on the portion invested in Unit-Linked funds

  • 0.75% per year on the portion invested in the Netissima euro fund

  • No fees for contributions, withdrawals or fund switches

Investment funds (ETFs, funds...) have their own management fees, which are directly built into their performance.

All fees are presented transparently in a summary before you finalize your subscription. More details on our fees here.

How do I manage my contract in self-directed mode?

At launch, management actions (fund switches, partial withdrawals, client file updates...) are handled from your Generali client space. Find the details in this article.

This is just a first step. In time, you'll be able to make your free contributions, recurring contributions, fund switches and withdrawals directly from Finary.

Can I switch from managed to self-directed mode?

This feature is not yet available. Our teams are actively working to make it accessible very soon.
