Add and manage precious metals

Gold, silver, platinum, palladium: how to add your coins, bars, and positions on Finary, and understand pricing.

Finary lets you track precious metals alongside the rest of your wealth. Our database includes over 1,000 coin and bar references in gold, silver, platinum, and palladium, sourced primarily from Numista.

Adding a precious metal

1. Click "Add assets" (web) or + (mobile).

2. Select the "Precious metals" category.

3. Search for your asset in the search bar.

4. Enter the quantity (number of units) and purchase price per unit.

5. Select or create an account to attach the asset.

6. Confirm.

Coins and bars do not have ISIN codes. Do not search by ISIN in this category.

Search tips

Our database uses Numista naming conventions (primarily in French). Here are some tips:

  • Gold coins: search by their common French name.
Examples: Napoleon 20 Francs, Britannia 1 once, 50 Francs Hercule, Krugerrand

  • Bars: search by weight.
Examples: Lingotin 50g Or, Lingot 1kg Argent, Lingotin 100g Or

  • Raw metal by weight: use the generic references.
Examples: 1g Or, 1g Argent, 1 oz Or

  • If you can't find your asset, try copy-pasting the exact name from the corresponding Numista page.

XAU / XAG / XPT / XPD positions

The ISO codes for precious metals are available directly in the "Precious metals" search:

Code

Metal

Value

XAU

Gold

1 troy ounce of gold

XAG

Silver

1 troy ounce of silver

XPT

Platinum

1 troy ounce of platinum

XPD

Palladium

1 troy ounce of palladium

Each unit represents 1 troy ounce of the relevant metal. These references are ideal for "paper" positions held via a broker (Revolut, Trade Republic, etc.).

For example, if you hold 5 oz of gold via Revolut, search for XAU in Precious metals and enter 5 as the quantity.

Do not confuse these with gold-backed ETFs or ETCs (e.g. Invesco Physical Gold): those should be added under "Stocks & Funds" using their ISIN code.

My coin or bar isn't in the database

If your asset doesn't appear in search results: use a weight-based reference.

For example, for a 250g silver bar, search for "1g Argent" and enter 250 as the quantity. The quantity represents the number of grams, not the number of bars.

Understanding pricing

The value of your precious metals is updated automatically on a daily basis.

  • Coins: the price includes the numismatic premium specific to each coin. It may therefore differ from the spot price. Two 1 oz coins can have different valuations because one carries a higher premium than the other.

  • Raw metal (1g Or, XAU, etc.): the price tracks the spot rate.

  • Data sources: Finary uses multiple sources to establish a consensus price. Minor discrepancies with other platforms (AuCoffre, Gold Avenue, Bullion Vault, etc.) are expected.

Managing multiple purchases of the same asset

When you add the same asset multiple times (e.g. a Napoleon bought in January and another in March), Finary automatically calculates a weighted average purchase price (PRU) across all your purchases.

For lots (tubes of 10 coins, for example): enter the number of coins as the quantity and the purchase price per coin (not the total tube price).

Reporting a price or data issue

If you notice an error (clearly incorrect price, wrong name, etc.):

- Web: Go to the asset → Click "" → "Report a data issue"

- Mobile: Tap the asset → "⚠ Report"

Each report is forwarded to our technical team. Frequently reported assets are automatically placed under observation for priority handling.
