⚠️ Availability: Goals are currently available only on the mobile app (iOS and Android) starting from version 2.136.
Where can I find my Goals?
From the mobile app home screen, a new Goals card gives you access to your goals and your emergency fund.
If you haven't created any goals yet, the Get Started button allows you to create your emergency fund. This is the first step: building a safety cushion before creating your other financial goals.
Once your emergency fund or goals have been created, you can track their progress directly from the home screen and tap on them to access their details.
How do I create a Goal?
From the goals list, tap the + button in the bottom-right corner. Goal creation takes place in three steps.
1. Name Your Goal
Give your goal a name (for example: "Down Payment for My Primary Residence").
Choose an icon from the 24 available options.
Or select a template to automatically pre-fill the name and icon:
Secure my real estate down payment
Become financially independent
Prepare for retirement
Fund my children's education
Buy a new car
Prepare for my wedding
Go on a trip
Build an emergency fund
2. Define the Parameters
Target amount (required): In your current currency, without inflation adjustment.
Target date (required): Set in years using a slider (e.g., "In 7 years (2034)").
Contributors (required): One or more Finary profiles participating in the goal. Your current profile is selected by default.
Contribution amount and frequency (optional): Weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.
Linked assets (required): Assets that will be used to track the goal's progress.
If an asset is linked to multiple goals, the goal with the closest target date is funded first.
Contributors must already exist as profiles on Finary. If you want to create a goal with someone else, their profile must first be added to the platform.
For the emergency fund, only cash assets (checking accounts and savings accounts) can be linked, since this savings must remain immediately available and risk-free.
3. Review and Confirm
Before creating your goal, you will see:
Your estimated progress
The required annual return needed to reach your target
A status indicating whether the goal appears achievable
Understanding Goal Statuses
Each goal is assigned a status based on the annual return required to achieve it:
Achieved: Your current amount has reached or exceeded your target. Congratulations!
Behind Schedule: The target date has passed and your goal has not been achieved. It needs to be reviewed.
Overfunded: The required return is below 0%. You're ahead of schedule — part of your savings could be reallocated.
Compromised: The required return exceeds 8%. Your goal depends too heavily on market performance and should be reconsidered.
On Track: The required return is between 0% and 8%. Everything is progressing as expected.
On the home screen and in the goals list, a combined status summarizes all your goals in a single view.
The required annual return corresponds to the market return needed to reach your target within the specified timeframe, taking into account your current amount and planned contributions.
Tracking and Adjusting a Goal
Tap a goal card to open its detailed view. There, you'll find:
A projection chart showing cumulative contributions and the required return curve
An analysis message tailored to your status
Adjustment levers if your goal is compromised or overfunded:
Increase or decrease your contributions
Move the target date forward or postpone it
Increase or decrease the target amount
Link additional assets
This is where you can adjust your strategy in just a few taps without starting from scratch.
Editing or Deleting a Goal
From the goals list, press and hold a goal (or use the "..." menu from the detailed view) to access two actions:
Edit my goal: Change the name, icon, amount, target date, contributors, or linked assets.
Delete: This action is irreversible. The goal and all associated data will be permanently deleted.
