Investing in crypto can offer high returns, but it carries significant risks, up to the total loss of the capital invested.
Finary values transparency, so here is a non-exhaustive list of the main risks you may face when investing in crypto:
Risk of capital loss
Crypto prices change constantly depending on the relative volumes of buy orders and sell offers on marketplaces. As crypto is particularly volatile, there is a possible risk of losing all of the capital invested.
Volatility risks
The value of crypto can change rapidly. Finary users are warned that they must be careful about their crypto exposure and that their exposure may be affected by sudden and unpredictable changes that would impact their crypto portfolio.
Risks intrinsic to crypto
The following list sets out the many risks inherent in using crypto:
Risk of a digital asset's blockchain being hacked;
Risks inherent in crypto such as coding errors, counterparty risk, etc.
Risk of a digital asset trading platform being hacked;
Risk of access problems of any kind between Finary and the partner crypto trading platform used, including loss of internet connection;
Risk of a digital asset trading platform shutting down temporarily or permanently;
Legal and regulatory risks in one or more jurisdictions relating to the purchase, sale, custody or exchange of digital assets;
Unforeseen risks given how new and experimental the technologies used are.
Yield risks
Counterparty/default risk: the third party borrowing the crypto may default and not repay the loan granted;
Liquidity risk: staked or lent crypto is locked for the time it takes to validate blockchain transactions, or for the duration of the loan;
Transaction risk: depositing crypto to stake or lend it may put that crypto at risk (network penalties in staking, partner default in lending);
Ownership risk in lending: during a loan, your crypto belongs to the lending partner. Its return depends on the partner's ability to give it back and is not guaranteed.
These are the main risks when investing in crypto. Past performance is not indicative of future performance: the returns shown are indicative and are not guaranteed.
