Smart rules enable you to create custom rules that automatically categorize certain transactions based on identifiable keywords or phrases.

For example, you may want to categorize any transaction containing "UBER*EATS" as "Food and Beverage.”

How to create a smart rule

🖥️ On the webapp

From the Budget page, you can create a smart rule in two ways:

Option 1: From a transaction

  1. Click on the transaction you'd like to recategorize

  2. On the sidebar, click on the category to change it

  3. Choose the desired category or create a new one

  4. After confirming, you'll see the smart rule option to apply this category to similar transactions

  5. Click Next, choose the keywords, then confirm

Option 2: From the Create button

  1. At the bottom of the Budget page, click the Create button

  2. Select New smart rule

  3. Follow the steps to define keywords and category

📱 On the mobile app

  1. Tap on a transaction you'd like to recategorize

  2. On the details screen, tap the category to change it

  3. Choose the desired category or create a new one

  4. After confirming, you'll see the smart rule option to apply this category to similar transactions

  5. Tap Next, choose the keywords, then confirm

That's it! Every future transaction will now use this rule automatically.

If you use Family mode: smart rules created on one profile are shared with all members.
