Connect your E*TRADE account to Finary

Etrade can be synced via Plaid or Flanks—here’s how to choose the best option and avoid common errors.

You can sync your E*TRADE account with Finary using two different providers. Here’s how to connect it successfully and what to do if you encounter issues.

🔄 Two ways to connect E*TRADE to Finary

You can add your E*TRADE account via:

  • Plaid — Look for “Etrade Financial” in the institution list.

  • Flanks — Look for “Etrade”

👉 We recommend trying Flanks if the Plaid connection fails or returns incomplete data.

🚫 Receiving an “Invalid credentials” error?

If you see an “invalid credentials” error when connecting via Flanks, it may be due to E*TRADE’s VIP Access authentication.

VIP Access is an additional security feature (2FA) offered by E*TRADE that uses a token-based security code. Currently, Flanks does not support VIP Access authentication. This means:

  • Flanks cannot prompt you for the security token.

  • As a result, login attempts using this method will fail with an invalid password error—even if your login credentials are correct .

Flanks is working on updating their login flow to support VIP Access, but this is not yet available.

If you’re using VIP Access and facing errors

Syncing your E*TRADE account may not be possible at the moment as Flanks will not prompt you for the security code separately.

However, there is a possible workaround: in the Flanks "Password" field, enter your password followed immediately by your VIP Access code, with no space.

Example:

  • Password: MyPassword

  • VIP Access code: 123456

  • Enter: MyPassword123456

⚠️ This workaround has worked for several users but may not work in all cases.

If connecting via Flanks fails:

  1. Try connecting via Plaid (search for "Etrade Financial")

  2. If neither option works, try temporarily disabling VIP Access in your E*TRADE account settings
