What is the Finary MCP connector?

The Finary MCP connector lets the AI assistant of your choice (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Mistral, Grok) read the data in your Finary account so it can answer questions about your wealth. You sign in with your Finary account: no API key to create, no banking credentials to enter.

How do you set it up?

The connector URL is the same for every assistant:

https://public-api.finary.com/mcp

Setup takes about a minute. There is no API key to create — you sign in with your Finary account.

In Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop)

Open Claude's connectors page: claude.ai/customize/connectors.
Click the Add button in the top right, then Add custom connector.
Name it Finary, paste https://public-api.finary.com/mcp, then click Add.
Click Connect. Finary opens an authorization screen listing what Claude will be able to read — click Authorize read-only access.
Ask a first question, for example "What is my portfolio allocation by asset class?"

On a free Claude plan you can only have one custom connector: if you already have one, Add custom connector appears greyed out — remove the existing connector or upgrade to a paid plan. On Team and Enterprise plans only an Owner can add the connector, from Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web; everyone else then simply clicks Connect.

In Claude Code (terminal)

In your terminal, run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user finary https://public-api.finary.com/mcp
Open Claude Code, type /mcp, select finary and start authentication. Your browser opens Finary’s authorization screen — click Authorize read-only access.
Back in the terminal, /mcp shows finary as connected. Ask a first question, for example "What is my portfolio allocation by asset class?"

In ChatGPT (paid plans only)

Open Settings → Plugins in ChatGPT, or go straight to chatgpt.com/#settings/Plugins.
Open Developer mode, then turn on the Developer mode option. ChatGPT shows an “Elevated risk” warning: it covers unverified connectors in general, some of which can modify or delete data. The Finary connector is read-only. The same setting also sits under Security and login.
Go back to Plugins, open Plugin Management and add a plugin.
Name it Finary, paste https://public-api.finary.com/mcp, then confirm.
Click Connect and sign in with your Finary account. Finary opens an authorization screen listing what ChatGPT will be able to read — click Authorize read-only access.
Open a new conversation, enable Finary in the tools, then ask a first question, for example "What is my portfolio allocation by asset class?"

In Grok (grok.com)

Open grok.com/connectors.
Click New Connector, then choose Custom.
Paste https://public-api.finary.com/mcp as the MCP server URL and confirm.
Finary shows an authorisation screen listing everything Grok will be able to read: click Authorise read-only access.
Ask a first question, for example "How is my wealth split by asset class?"

In Perplexity (paid plans only)

Open Settings → Connectors in Perplexity.
In the top right, click Custom connector, then Add MCP connector.
In the Add custom connector window, name it Finary, paste https://public-api.finary.com/mcp into the MCP server URL field, tick I understand custom connectors can introduce risks, then click Add. Leave the Advanced section closed.
The Finary connector now appears in your list — open it. If it is not there, filter by the Custom category.
Click Add connector. Finary opens an authorization screen listing what Perplexity will be able to read — click Authorize read-only access.
A tab confirms the authentication succeeded — you can close it. Back in Perplexity, Finary is now shown as Connected.

In Mistral Vibe (chat.mistral.ai)

Finary is listed in Vibe's connector marketplace: there is no custom connector to create and no URL to paste.

Open Vibe's connector marketplace: chat.mistral.ai/connections/marketplace.
On the Finary card, click the + button.

In a code editor (Cursor)

The connector URL is the same as everywhere else, and it must start with https://: entered without that prefix, your editor tries to connect over http:// and the connection is refused. There is no API key or client ID to provide — leave those fields empty.

Open Customize → MCPs, then New MCP Server. You can also edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json directly.

Cursor opens your browser on Finary’s authorization screen — click Authorize read-only access.
The server then shows as connected in the MCPs tab. Ask a first question, for example "What is my portfolio allocation by asset class?"

If the connection fails

The URL is missing its prefix. It must start with https:// — without it, your client falls back to http:// and the connection is refused.
“Authorization with Finary failed”: most often the connector's access has already been removed. You then need to run the authorization again, not just reconnect: start it from your assistant (the Connect button, or by removing and re-adding the connector), then click Allow read-only access once more. If the message shows a reference starting with ofid_, send it to us — it lets us find the attempt.
The connector shows as connected but no tools appear: close and reopen your assistant. If it persists, write to us.

Which assistants can I connect?

The connector works with any MCP-compatible client. Nothing in your account restricts which assistant you choose — if a connection fails, it is never because your assistant is not “allowed”.

The paths described above are the ones we have verified and can help you with. Other clients connect too, without us describing each one.

If you hit an error, write to us with the assistant you used and the message shown — that is what lets us unblock them.

What data can your assistant read?

Exactly the categories the authorisation screen lists for you before you approve:

Your net worth and how it's split — including per family member
Your accounts, holdings, property, loans and other assets
Your income, spending and budgets, and up to two years of history behind them
Your goals and plans
The family and companies you've added
Your name, email and linked-account status

This data comes from your Finary account: the connections you have set up through our authorised partners (Powens, Flanks, Plaid) and the accounts you have entered manually. Your banking credentials are never passed to your assistant — they stay with those partners, and Finary has no access to them.

Can your assistant act on your accounts?

No. The connector is strictly read-only. Your assistant cannot place an order, make a transfer, or change or delete anything in your Finary account. It only ever reads your own data — the connector gives access to no account other than yours.

How is your data handled?

Nothing is shared unless you ask: your data is sent only when you put a question to your assistant, and only to the assistant you have connected.
The assistant you connect (Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity, Mistral, Grok) receives your data solely upon your instruction and acts as an independent data controller, in accordance with its own privacy policy. How long your conversations are kept, and whether they are used to train its models, is therefore governed by that assistant and not by Finary.
Depending on the assistant you connect, your data may be processed outside the European Union, in accordance with that assistant's own privacy policy. The legal basis for this sharing is your explicit consent, collected when you activate the connector and revocable at any time.
Access tokens and connection logs are kept for 12 months from the revocation of the connector. No data is stored by Finary with the assistant provider.

How do you cut off access?

Remove the Finary connector in your assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Mistral, Grok): it then stops accessing your data. Nothing is changed in your accounts or your positions. If you want to use it again later, you will have to go through the authorization screen again — reconnecting on its own is not enough.

In Claude, open claude.ai/customize/connectors, find Finary and remove it.
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins, find Finary and remove it.
In Grok, open grok.com/connectors, find Finary and remove it.
In Perplexity, open Settings → Connectors, find Finary and remove it.
In Mistral Vibe, open chat.mistral.ai/connections, find Finary and remove it.

To cut off every assistant at once, open Security from your Finary account menu and turn off Allow AI assistants (MCP). Every assistant you connected through Finary then loses access, including the ones in use right now; it can take a few minutes to fully apply. You can allow access again at any time. This setting is available on the web and in the mobile app.

Does my assistant give investment advice?

No. Your assistant reads and describes your wealth. None of its answers constitutes personalised investment advice, and Finary does not give an opinion on the suitability of your investments through this channel.
